When a person who is suffering from dementia suddenly wanders off it can be a traumatic experience for their carer. How long ago did they disappear? Where did they go? If they remain missing for some hours then concerns will grow over their safety and welfare. When do you ask for help? Who do you ask to help search for them? Should you call the Police? Are they going to be OK?
And often, when they are found, the carer will reassess the situation and may well decide that they must have much greater control over the sufferer’s freedom, if only because the experience of them being lost was too much to bear.
Carers told Mindme about their problems and worries and Locate is the result. It’s a simple locating device which is worn by the sufferer. Alternatively it could be attached to a belt or even be kept in a pocket.
Research suggests that if a dementia sufferer begins to wear a Mindme Locate in the early stages of the disease then, as the disease progresses, the sufferer accepts it as an essential item and will not attempt to throw it away.
For carers it means that at any time they can look up on the web the whereabouts of the sufferer. It also means that if the sufferer suddenly wanders off Mindme’s Emergency Response Centre is available to help the carer.
